Yes the rumour that Lazygamer reported on is partially true. South African will now be able to get the 60GB Xbox 360 console for the same price as the previous 20GB Xbox 360 console was selling for.
I believe this is really awesome as it positions the Xbox 360 brand perfectly for the festive season this year.
The full press release follows:
JOHANNESBURG, 8 September 2008 – Microsoft is now offering even more great value for the Xbox 360 with triple the storage space of the original console for the same estimated retail price (ERP) of R2,999.00
Following the exciting announcements of the New Xbox Experience and fantastic upcoming titles at E3, the improved Xbox 360 will be available in stores across South Africa from 8 September at no extra cost. With almost endless hours of fun and entertainment for everyone, the extra storage space will provide more than enough room for music fans to store around 15,000 songs, or movie lovers more than 20 movies.
“Now more than ever consumers will have better choice and value to satisfy their entertainment demands – all at no additional cost.” said David Gosen, EMEA vice president strategic marketing for Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft. “No other single device offers the depth and breadth of entertainment that Xbox 360 can deliver, and with three times the storage there’s plenty of extra space for you to store your favourite photos and movies.
The 60GB console is just one of three Xbox 360 gaming and entertainment systems Microsoft offers. Microsoft’s Xbox 360 Arcade, which comes with a 256MB memory unit and five Xbox Arcade games, is great value for the whole family at R1,999.00 (ERP), and the premium Xbox 360 Elite console is available with a 120GB hard drive for R3,999.00 (ERP).
Out of the box, the Xbox 360 is ready to provide an incredible entertainment and gaming experience:
- Xbox 360 console. The console comes in a stylish cool white finish and is powered by three processors capable of producing the best in high definition (HD) entertainment (up to 1080p for gaming), 16:9 wide-screen cinema aspect ratio, full surround sound, anti-aliasing for smooth on-screen textures and “high-definition multimedia interface” (HDMI) output.
- 60 GB Hard Drive. The 60GB detachable hard drive allows gamers to save their games and store movies, music, pictures, trailers, levels and demos.
- Upscaling DVD Player. With an HDMI cable (sold separately), watch your favourite normal DVDs in near high-definition using the upscaling capabilities of Xbox 360.
- Xbox 360 Wireless Controller. This award-winning, high-performance wireless controller features the Xbox Guide Button for quick, in-game access to friends and music. It has a range of up to 30 feet and a battery life of up to 30 hours.
Yeah it seems my secret source was a little pre-mature…
But glad to see it arrived locally before a lot of other countries got it.
