The final Johannesburg 27dinner for 2009 was a huge success. As per normal I snapped a few candid photos of the event.

On Wednesday night a bunch of geeks, nerds and wannabe geeks packed into the upstairs section of Primi Piatti in The Design Quarter Fourways for the final 27dinner of 2009. This time there were no formal talks just lots of socialising and some really awesome grub.

It also proved an excellent opportunity for me to test out my new 50mm f/1.4 prime lens without blinding people with a flash. Unfortunately though I didn’t check my auto-focus setting and as a result quite a few of my shots are a tad blurry. But that’s what being an hobbyist photographer is all about, learning.

Photos from the Johannesburg 27dinner (27-31 Jozi) held in November 2008.

Last night a couple of us gathered for the final Johannesburg 27dinner for 2008, namely 27-31 Jozi. I think Garsen’s Cappello restaurant has got to be the best venue for the 27dinner as we have it exclusively to ourselves. No rowdy drunkards to compete with the speaker anymore. The presentation covered web security threats and Dominic White delivered it in a way that I believe most people could fathom – it might have helped that most of us are in fact geeks.

I had a great evening and it was awesome to see some new faces in the crowd. We all got name badges switched and had to find the owner of the name badge which meant for lots of introductions and networking. Great idea guys, but with Super Nana please come forward and claim your name badge. :p

PS. I’ve decided not to post the 27 boobs photos due to the lack of participation, maybe there wasn’t enough liquor flowing, but there is always next time. You can click the collage for the gallery.

Some candid photos I took at Tech-Ed South Africa 2008 down in Durban.

This year Tech-Ed South Africa was held in Durban, South Africa’s playground, and I managed to snap a few photographs with my new Sony DSLR-A350 camera.

The event started off as per usual with a bit of a show by some talented dancers and some sexy ladies in bikinis. Unfortunately I had to rely on a steady hand to get the opening keynote photos as I was way back in the auditorium.

And to get the ball rolling Manoj Boohla was rikshawed to the stage, body board under his arm and wearing a Sharks supporter shirt.

This year BB&D sponsored the MVP Cave where South African Most Valuable Professionals were invited to stay together at The Sandringham B&B in Umhlanga.

I took way too many photos to blog about, so you can browse the rest of the photos over here.

My thoughts on the July 27dinner and some photos I took at the event.

Last night I attended the Johannesburg 27dinner and as usual I took too many photos. All in all there were three talks presented by Kate Elphick, Jason Hobbs and Charl Norman. Unfortunately the restaurant patrons upstairs made it very difficult for people at the back of the restaurant to follow the presentations as they were being rather loud the whole evening. Nonetheless, I had a great evening and met quite a few new faces.

Here are a couple of photos:

Be sure to book your place for the next 27dinner in Jozi on the 27th of September.
